Someone recently told me that I don't handle stress well. I was shocked because this person knows where I work and if that isn't stressful, I don't know what is! I couldn't help but to start thinking about the situations that I've been in that required my composure to be well kept and the many times life knocked me on my backside but I bounced back up with a smile. In the back of my mind I was thinking, if this one vulnerable moment makes you think I don't handle stress well, I can only imagine what you'd think if you saw/know what I don't show!
As I reflected on the conversation, I heard God say, "It's what you DON'T see"! So many times, we stress and worry about what APPEARS to be major disruptions and problems in our lives, but we fail to think about the issues that God often keeps us from. We should be grateful for the things we don't see. If we could glimpse into the accidents God has kept us from, the homelessness God has kept us from, the illness God has kept us from, I'm sure we would have a different outlook on things.
Pay attention to those loved ones that are usually the strong ones or the ones that carry tons of responsibility (gracefully) day to day. Look beyond their strengths and perseverance. Because just like God told me, sometimes, it's what you don't see that matters.
