It's Just an App!

So many people are mourning the loss of our beloved TikTok. People have made friends, built businesses, learned new things, made financial progresses, and simply have had fun on the app. While the majority of TikTok'ers are sad, there are a few who just don't understand what all the hoopla is about. I've even seen some posts that people are glad the app is being banned. I personally think that's a horrible thought to have considering so many people, especially those that work for TT, will be out of income.

But here's the real reason the ban of TT is hurting so many people (IMO)...

During Covid, TikTok was a way for people to momentarily forget about the woes of the world and just get together (with strangers) and laugh! It was an era of learning new dances, making insanely funny skits, enjoying new recipes, and more! It made us human again. It was ok to laugh and not get offended at everything. It was ok to cook something different, that you've never eaten before, because your favorite influencer said it was good. It was watching twins dance their way into motherhood at the same time. It was ok to be bored in the house and be in the house bored. It was cool to be called Pookie. It was fun to listen to different music mixes by not only your favorite musicians but also from new and upcoming artists. It was a feel-good moment during a not so feel-good time.

The loss of TikTok means more than just an app disappearing. As mentioned before, it's the loss of income, the loss of education, the loss of friends and acquaintances, the loss of laughter, simply put...the loss of an era of people coming together. And while I’m sure something else will come along and grab our attentions, there will never be another TikTok.
